Tonseisha – Rough For Opera
I staged an excerpt from Tonseisha – The Man Who Abandoned The World, for Rough For Opera at The Cockpit London on October 15th 2012 as part of a long term project I undertook with saltpeter.
Born of a wish to combine spoken word with opera, the project itself was driven forward by myself and Vera Chok. However it was the child of many individuals.
Tonseisha, the play, is by American playwright Erik Patterson. Composer Kim Ashton and I worked with a team from many disciplines to turn it into an opera.
This was the third time that we performed an excerpt (you can read more about previous versions, and the process so far on other parts of this site), and each time we convened as a group we collectively tried to extend the complexity of piece as we tried to move towards creating a full-scale production.
